MGS LH418 is a premium curing agent specifically formulated for use with EPIKOTE™ Resin LR418, providing superior mechanical and thermal properties for demanding composite applications. Approved by the German Federal Aviation Authority, it is trusted in the production of gliders, motor gliders, helicopters, and other high-performance structures. The system offers exceptional heat resistance, operational reliability at temperatures ranging from -60°C to +100°C (with post-curing), and excellent compatibility with glass, carbon, and aramid fibers. Its low viscosity allows for quick and thorough fiber impregnation, making it ideal for both large-scale industrial projects and precise custom applications in aerospace, marine, and automotive sectors.
Application:
MGS LH418 is widely used in:
- Aerospace: Gliders, motor gliders, motor planes, and helicopters.
- Marine and Shipbuilding: Composite structures for boats and ships.
- Industrial and Sports Equipment: Molds, tools, automotive parts, and sports gear.
Mixing and Preparation
- Mixing Ratio: 37 parts curing agent to 100 parts resin by weight (45 parts by volume).
- Instructions: Mix thoroughly, ensuring walls and bottom of the container are fully incorporated.
Application Techniques
Wet Layup
- Description: Resin is applied directly to the reinforcement materials.
- Best For: Prototyping and small-scale projects.
Vaccuum Bagging
- Description: Combines wet layup with vacuum pressure to improve laminate quality.
- Common Uses: Aerospace, marine, and automotive industries where high strength and precision are critical.
Application Tip: Mix the resin until it is completely clear with no cloudiness. Avoid overmixing or under-mixing, as either can compromise the curing process.
Processing Temperature
- Recommended Processing Temperature Range: 15°C to 50°C (preferably 25°C to 35°C).
Curing Process
- Initial Curing: Room temperature curing leaves the resin brittle; demolding requires post-curing.
- Curing Agent Compatibility: Designed specifically for EPIKOTE™ Resin LR418.
- Post-Curing:
- 50–55°C: Meets standards for gliders and motor gliders.
- 80°C or higher: Required for motor planes and enhanced thermal properties.
