MGS® Hardener 287 is a slow-curing agent designed for use with MGS L 285 Laminating Resin. Its extended working time makes it the optimal choice for complex and large-scale laminations, ensuring precise fiber placement and careful processing. Hardener 287 is widely used in aerospace, marine, and automotive industries for intricate layups or applications requiring a longer pot life. It is compatible with glass, carbon, and aramid fibers, providing excellent mechanical strength and dimensional stability. While it supports room-temperature curing, post-curing at 80°C enhances its thermal resistance and mechanical performance, making it suitable for high-stress applications with operational temperatures up to 100°C.
Application
- Production of Gliders,Motor Gliders and Motor Planes
- Boats and Shipbuilding
- Sports Equipment
- Model Airplanes
- Molds and Tools
Mixing and Preparation
- Mixing Ratio: By weight 100:40 ± 2, by volume 100:50 ± 2.
Application Techniques
Wet Layup
- Description: Resin is applied directly to the reinforcement materials.
- Best For: Prototyping and small-scale projects.
Vacuum Bagging
- Description: Combines wet layup with vacuum pressure to improve laminate quality.
- Common Uses: Aerospace, marine, and automotive industries where high strength and precision are critical.
Application Tip: Mix the resin until it is completely clear with no cloudiness. Avoid over-mixing or under-mixing, as either can compromise the curing process.
Processing Temperature
- Recommended Processing Temperature Range:10°C to 50°C. Optimal range is 20°C to 40°C.
Curing Process
- Initial Curing: Completed at room temperature (24 hours at 23°C).
- Curing Agent Compatibility: Designed for exclusive use with MGS Resin 285.
- Post-Curing:Optional heat treatment at 80°C for maximum performance.
