MGS L 285 Laminating Resin is a highly versatile epoxy system designed for demanding composite applications across aerospace, marine, and industrial sectors. Recognized for its exceptional performance, it is officially approved by the German Federal Aviation Authority, making it a trusted choice for critical structures such as gliders, motor gliders, and high-performance tools. This resin offers outstanding compatibility with reinforcement materials, including glass, carbon, and aramide fibers, delivering superior static and dynamic load-bearing capabilities.

Its advanced formulation ensures thorough impregnation of reinforcement fibers while maintaining excellent stability, even on vertical surfaces. Suitable for both manual lay-up and vacuum bagging techniques, MGS L 285 facilitates efficient and precise processing. The resin system is designed for use with Hardeners 285, 286, and 287, which provide flexible pot lives ranging from 45 minutes to 4 hours. The resin and hardeners maintain a consistent mixing ratio of 100:40 ± 2 by weight or 100:50 ± 2 by volume.

MGS® L 285 cures initially at room temperature, producing durable, tack-free, and high-gloss surfaces even under less-than-ideal environmental conditions. For enhanced thermal and mechanical properties, post-curing at temperatures between 50°C and 80°C is recommended. Its proven reliability, ease of use, and outstanding results make it an excellent choice for manufacturing molds, tools, and structural components.

Application:
  • Production of Gliders,Motor Gliders and Motor Planes
  • Boats and Shipbuilding
  • Sports Equipments
  • Model Airplanes
  • Moulds and Tools
Mixing and Preparation
  • Mixing Ratio: By weight 100:40 ± 2, by volume 100:50 ± 2 with Hardener 285, 286, or 287.
Application Techniques
Wet Layup
  • Description: Resin is applied directly to the reinforcement materials.
  • Best For: Prototyping and small-scale projects.
Vaccuum Bagging
  • Description: Combines wet layup with vacuum pressure to improve laminate quality.
  • Common Uses: Aerospace, marine, and automotive industries where high strength and precision are critical.

Application Tip: Mix the resin until it is completely clear with no cloudiness. Avoid overmixing or under-mixing, as either can compromise the curing process.

Processing Temperature
  • Recommended Processing Temperature Range: 10°C to 50°C. Optimal range is 20°C to 40°C.
Curing Process
  • Initial Curing: Typically completed at room temperature (24 hours at 23°C).
  • Curing Agent Compatibility:Hardeners 285, 286, and 287 are compatible with the resin,
  • Post-Curing:Heat treatment at 50°C to 80°C is recommended for enhanced performance.
