Hardener 285 is a curing agent specifically formulated for use with MGS L 285 Laminating Resin. It has the shortest pot life among the compatible hardeners in the system (Hardener 285, 286, and 287), with a pot life of approximately 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending on processing conditions. In comparison, Hardener 286 offers a longer pot life of 3 to 4 hours, and Hardener 287 provides the longest pot life of 5 to 6 hours. This makes Hardener 285 ideal for applications requiring faster curing and shorter working times.
The consistent mixing ratio of 100:40 ± 2 by weight or 100:50 ± 2 by volume ensures compatibility with the resin system and ease of use. Hardener 285 enables room temperature initial curing, producing durable, tack-free surfaces. For enhanced thermal and mechanical properties, post-curing at temperatures between 50°C and 80°C is recommended.
Hardener 285 is suitable for projects requiring shorter processing times and works reliably across a range of composite applications, delivering high-quality results when used with MGS L 285 Laminating Resin.
Application
- Production of Gliders,Motor Gliders and Motor Planes
- Boats and Shipbuilding
- Sports Equipments
- Model Airplanes
- Moulds and Tools
Mixing and Preparation
- Mixing Ratio:By weight 100:40 ± 2, by volume 100:50 ± 2 with MGS L 285 Laminating Resin.
Application Techniques
Wet Layup
- Description: Resin is applied directly to the reinforcement materials.
- Best For: Prototyping and small-scale projects.
Vaccuum Bagging
- Description: Combines wet layup with vacuum pressure to improve laminate quality.
- Common Uses: Aerospace, marine, and automotive industries where high strength and precision are critical.
Application Tip: Mix the resin until it is completely clear with no cloudiness. Avoid overmixing or under-mixing, as either can compromise the curing process.
Processing Temperature
- Recommended Processing Temperature Range:10°C to 50°C. Optimal range is 20°C to 40°C.
Curing Process
- Initial Curing: Completed at room temperature (24 hours at 23°C).
- Curing Agent Compatibility: Designed for exclusive use with MGS L 285.
- Post-Curing:Heat treatment between 50°C to 80°C is recommended for enhanced thermal and mechanical properties.
