EPIKOTE Resin MGS LR135, combined with EPIKURE Curing Agents LH133-138, is a highly versatile laminating epoxy resin system designed to deliver superior mechanical performance across a wide range of applications. This system has earned approval from Germanischer Lloyd (DNV-GL SE), ensuring its reliability and quality in demanding industries. Optimized for compatibility with glass, carbon, and aramid fibers, it offers outstanding static and dynamic load-bearing capacity, making it ideal for applications requiring strength and durability. The resin exhibits exceptional adhesion to wood and other materials, enabling its use in both structural and adhesive applications.
A key advantage of this system is its adaptability, as it allows for the selection of curing agents to achieve precise pot lives, ranging from as short as 10 minutes to over 6 hours. This flexibility makes it suitable for a variety of processing techniques, including hand layup, wet layup, and vacuum bagging. Furthermore, the system ensures high-quality, non-tacky, and high-gloss surfaces even in less-than-optimal curing conditions, such as lower temperatures or higher humidity levels.
Application:
Used in
- Rotor blades for wind turbines
- Boat-building
- as laminating and adhesive resins (wood-epoxy construction)
- Sporting Goods
- Molds, tools and other devices
Mixing and Preparation
- Mixing Ratio:The mixing ratio is 100 parts resin to 35 ± 2 parts curing agent by weight or 100 parts resin to 41 ± 2 parts curing agent by volume.
Application Techniques
Wet Layup
- Description: Resin is applied directly to the reinforcement materials.
- Best For: Prototyping and small-scale projects.
Vaccuum Bagging
- Description: Combines wet layup with vacuum pressure to improve laminate quality.
- Common Uses: Aerospace, marine, and automotive industries where high strength and precision are critical.
Application Tip: Mix the resin until it is completely clear with no cloudiness. Avoid over-mixing or under-mixing, as either can compromise the curing process.
Processing Temperature
- Recommended Processing Temperature Range: 20°C to 35°C.
- Higher temperatures will shorten pot life; a 10°C increase halves the pot life
Curing Process
- Initial Curing: Approximately 2–3 hours at 20–25°C
- Curing Agent Compatibility: Compatible with EPIKOTE™ Resin MGS LR135.
- Post-Curing:To achieve optimal mechanical properties, post-cure at temperatures above 40°C
