MGS EK960 is an amine-based curing agent with low viscosity, engineered for warm curing epoxy systems. It provides reliable curing at room temperature with the option for enhanced properties through post-curing.
When combined with MGS Resin L20, MGS EK 960 provides excellent mechanical strength, strong adhesion, and high thermal resistance. It offers low water absorption and exceptional durability, making it perfect for challenging composite applications.
Application:
- Gliders
- Motor gliders
- Motor planes
- Boat and shipbuilding
- Sports equipment
- Model airplanes
- Molds and tools
Mixing and Preparation
- Ensure a clean and dust-free workspace with temperatures between 25°C and 35°C (77°F to 95°F).
- Measure EPIKOTE™ Resin L 20 and EPIKURE™ Curing Agent 960 accurately in a 100:34 parts by weight ratio.
- Thoroughly mix the resin and hardener, ensuring a homogeneous mixture and minimizing air entrapment.
Application Techniques
Wet Layup
- Description: Resin is applied directly to the reinforcement materials.
- Best For: Prototyping and small-scale projects.
Vaccuum Bagging
- Description: Combines wet layup with vacuum pressure to improve laminate quality.
- Common Uses: Aerospace, marine, and automotive industries where high strength and precision are critical.
Application Tip: Mix the resin until it is completely clear with no cloudiness. Avoid overmixing or under-mixing, as either can compromise the curing process.
Processing Temperature
- A good processing temperature is in the range between 25°C and 35°C. Higher processing temperatures are possible but will shorten the pot life. A rise in temperature of 10°C reduces the pot life by approx. 50%.
Curing Process
- Cure at room temperature (20°C or 68°F) for 24 hours.
- Perform post-curing by heating at 60°C (140°F) for 4 hours, followed by 130°C (266°F) for 3 hours.
- Ensure the composite has fully cured before operational use
